From Stephanie :
I got this '53 Chevy pickup when I came home from Afghanistan. My Mom's ex-husband Bob Bennett owned it for over 30 years and it's been sitting in his back yard for the last 10 or so. Before I left for Afghanistan I asked what he was going to do with it and if he'd ever sell it. After his disbelief that I wanted the rust box, we made a deal -- I make it home from Afghanistan, he'll GIVE me the truck! What a deal.
Well, I made it home and he gave me the truck. All I paid was $22.50 for the title transfer!
As you can see, it's not on the original frame (nor does it have the original engine). It is on a 1962 3/4-ton 4 x 4 (K20) frame. It has a 1977 350 under the hood.
He has told me so many stories about that truck! But it does still run! I'm in the military and recently moved to Germany. My step-Father (Kim Wolford) and my uncle (Scott Wolford) will be rebuilding the truck while I'm away from home in Germany/Iraq. I supply all the funds! So it's as much his project as it is mine!
When I'm home visiting, I hope I can get my hands dirty on this thing too! What I REALLY need at this point is a cab ... that's my problem right now! The cab floor is so rusted I'm surprised the seat stayed put while I sat on it to put it on the car trailer!
So if anyone knows where to get a cab or even a project truck to work with, let me know!
