1951 Chevrolet Canopy Express 3100
16 May 2011
From Eric :
I have yet ANOTHER truck to add to the Stovebolt Gallery.
This gem is a 1951 Chevrolet Canopy Express 3100. I found this on an local on-line ad. It had been up for 40 mintues when I called on it. Luckly, I beat everyone to it!
This old Chevy truck was parked eight years ago in drivable condition. The owner said that the motor (235) and the transmission ( 4 speed) had been rebuilt some time ago.
This truck was originally a goverment welder truck in Rosevelt, Utah. The guy who drove that truck later bought it at an auction and restored it.
About eight years ago, the owner lost interest and put it up for sale. So this was pretty much a one owner truck.
Looks to be all complete and in good shape! I will restore this to original condition with the exception of a 12 volt system and the 235.
I got the 235 running again and actually drove it to work. The brakes didn't work but good this the e-brake still worked! Right now I'm in the middle of overhauling all the brakes. It will be completely drivable in about a week and it will start going to some car shows!
Any more information of these canopy expresses would be appreciacted
2013 Info - Eric's trucks have become "stars." He's got a few in the show Granite Flats. Here are some pictures and videos that he has in his Photobucket Account devoted exclusively to the television series production. Since they have been using the 1955 GMC 350 2-Ton the most, we have included some details in that Gallery page.
Be sure to Read Eric's "The Hunt and the Kill" in our Features section -- Eric's saga, and our future. Then at 17, Eric hunts down his first Stovebolt ... and learns the joys of hunting (and getting) his first Stovebolt -- well, actually several! And then there's his "creative financing" strategies ... pretty goot!
Did we say a "collection" ... here's what Eric has (so far) -- a few in the Gallery and hopefully more stories coming! ~ Editor
