From Tom :

Here is an update on my best friend REX. He keeps getting better every day.

He takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin' ! [ Now this is a picture for our Working 'Bolts calendar, for sure! ~ Editor ]

I had the bed and wheels sandblasted and painted. I fixed a few oil leaks.

I still need to repair the oil pan, steering box and pinion leaks. I bought a new chrome front grille.

The front of the bed was repaired and a cab protector was fabricated. I found some running boards on this site. I don't like the fire truck ones on there now.

We have a lot of jobs lined up this summer. I can't wait to get him back to work.

From Tom :

Here is my 1954 Chevrolet 6400 Big Bolt dump truck [ pix ] . It's an old fire truck pumper. In the 1970's, the Village had someone remove a section of the frame and added a dump bed. It has the two speed rear-end that you must use when hauling a big load. The parking brake on the drive shaft works great. It has 11,000 original miles and the 261 runs like a watch.

The dump truck has a 18000 gvw rating. I usually haul five or six tons at a pop. Hauling limestone, topsoil and mulch keep her busy in the summertime. I let her rest in the winter.

The heater is broken. You should have seen the look on my old lady's face when I drove her home. It was priceless!!
