A Cool Old Truck

Don Gwartney's

1964 C-30 Chevy Firetruck

13 July 2004

From Don:

I am 56 years old, a retired mechanic and a volunteer firefighter. Our department decided to retire this 1964 C-30. So, they gave it to me. It has been garage-kept and has no rust on it at all. I drove it home! Everything on it works and it came with 500 gallons of water and a full gas tank!!

The body was made by Howe and it has a 500gpm Waterous Front Mount Pump. It must have been the cheapest cab Chevy made. It was ordered with no heater, radio, or cig lighter. The engine is a 327 with a 4-speed transmission.

I plan on recovering the seat and painting the outside.Use it for parades and maybe a couple of local truck shows.

I started this web page to keep track of what I am doing on the fire truck.
