From Mike :

This is my 1950 3/4-ton Chevy hand-crank tow truck. [ pix ] I bought it for $1000 from a friend's Mother, after her Father died. He had owned it for quite some time. He always wanted to restore it back to the original look. But he never really had time to do it. He passed away about seven years ago.

So the truck hadn't been started or moved for that length of time. Even after seven years of sitting, it started with ease. [ View of engine ]

When I spoke with my friend's mother, she told me how her Father wanted to restore it back to the original tow truck look. I was very indecisive whether or not to restore it as a pickup truck or tow truck. However, after the talk, I decided to restore it as a tow truck for her Father's sake -- Cosme Guevara, who was from Rosemead, California.

We took some of the pictures when I started dismantling the hank-crank and boom.

Here you can see a hand crank which was used to raise and lower the vehicles that were in tow. Also, from what I was told by the tow truck driver that delivered the truck to me, it has a bumper type of lift. If any kind of problem occurred during that type of tow, it would completely tear off the bumper of the vehicle being towed.

I'm sure glad technology took care of that major problem with towing.

This my first restoration project.
