Chevrolet 3800 Dump Body

22 May  03 UPDATE

Here is another shot of "the beast" with the dump up.  All mechanical work has been complete.  I just have to get that oak rack done.

Hello fellow Stovebolters,

Mark and Sue Brady are the proud owners of "The Beast".   Here is a picture of our 1953 Chevy 3800 dump body "The Beast" which we purchased in the fall of 2002.  It was built in up state New York and spent much of its early life as a woods truck carrying firewood on a farm (so I'm told).  It was then owned by a marina in New Jersey as a yard truck for many years.  The last owner had it for just one year before we bought it.

It is a four speed with an inline six and a Rochester single barrel Carburetor.  The original generator was replaced with an alternator (which I understand is a good thing) and the radio is modern.  Besides these two items the truck is stock.  We are currently having the engine rebuilt, the heating core replaced, the steeling box replaced and the wipers converted to electric.  I'm working on new varnished oak racks for the dump body and we are thinking about having a fuel tank installed outside the driving compartment and three point seatbelts installed.  Driving in NJ is pretty insane.  It has always been my wife's dream to have an old truck so what the heck.  You only go around once in this crazy world. "The Beast" is now part of the family.
