A Cool Old Truck

Ed Black's

1950 GMC 1/2-Ton

14 October 04

From Ed:

Here is my 1950 GMC half ton. This was a one-owner truck, before I got hold of it. An old duffer up in Atlanta bought the truck new in 1950 and used it as a farm truck. Following his retirement, he had it almost completely restored and drove it around for about 700 miles. Then, sadly, he passed away and I bought the truck from his estate.

I finished the restoration and I am now in the process of putting some period correct performance parts on the 1955 Chevrolet 235 engine that it runs. I changed out the rear end so that it would go a bit faster than its original top speed of 45 MPH.

The color is the original Pimpernel Scarlet. The truck is a daily driver. Amazingly, it ran around for over 50 years with no trailer hitch on it! I fixed that, but I only ask it to haul around my Harleys and a 1955 Porsche which only weighs 1250 pounds wet.
