I've used a home-brewed bracket that fits over the end of the axle, with a 10-ton Porto-Power ram for a pusher. When the pin moves, it will occasionally launch itself like a rocket, so don't get very close to the axle while you're pushing on the pin. That 10-foot high pressure hose on the Porto-Power is just about the right "safe" distance for me.

That ought to work for about 90% of them. C-clamp was a great invention.

Yes most any shop can press them out.
But can they do it when the axle is still in the truck?
A hydraulic and portable king pin press can, that's what this thread is about.

I think it's fairy obvious that you can simply take the whole axle to a shop to press them out... if you have the axle out of the truck.

It should also be obvious that removing the axle and having the work done safely may have considerable merit. When you talk about rocketing things off a gargage floor you may want to consider alternatives. Home made tools are exactly that home made and carry inherent risks from any standpoint. If you are that far into a rebuild and you are not removing the axle/u-bolts now some 55-60 years old again it begs the question why, you can buy a whole new set of 4 for $32 bucks, anybody price dental work or surgery lately?
