never heard of that happening after 55 1st and 2nd [which was because the newer series wasn't ready yet], but the "new" years vehicles always started comin off the line middle of the previous year, and started getting sold by fall, so someone could have bought a 67 in like Sept of 66

Actually, it's happened twice since. 1987 and 1999. In '87, the GMT 400 chassis was supposed to come out along with the rest of the new '87s, but was delayed until mid year. As I recall, there were manufacturing issues that had to be worked out. My Dad has one of those mid year trucks. It's registered as an '88 K2500, but the build date was mid May, and he bought the truck in July. The window sticker IDs it as a "GMT 400", not a K2500.
The '99s were a case of a strike delaying the intoduction, so there were carryover "99s" that were actually the '98 bodystyle. Both body trucks were sold at the same time for a few months. Those were only 1/2 ton models, the light 3/4 tons came out with the new body, and heavy 3/4 and 1 tons didn't change to the GMT 800 until the '01 model year. It does make thngs interesting when we need to order parts for the carryover '99s, we almost always get the wrong parts. Same goes for the Trailblazer/Envoy '01-'04, as there was an S boby version of both in addition to the GMT 360/370 version.

Most vehicle new year designs came out in late September of the year to try to bring up sales for the end of the year so yes there has to be a few rare 1966 trucks with the 1967 body, being it was a completly new design I'm sure they were a big feature for truck lots, a big year for that was 1958 when everything changed over, I know a couple of guys that have a 57 belair that's actually a 58

In that case, that's more of a DMV error rather than an actual mid year body change. I have heard that in some areas, vehicles were registered for the year they were sold, rather than the actual model year the manufacturer states. There's been cases of early '58s registered as '57s, and leftover '57s that were sold in early '58 registered as the later model year.
