1948 Chevy Deluxe Panel Truck

          This is my 1948 Chevrolet Deluxe Panel truck. It was originally purchased by Saks News Agency of Bismarck, North Dakota and driven continually until 1974.

          This is the day I brought it home from North Dakota. It started out innocently enough -- I was just going on a road trip with my neighbor and good friend Roger to pick up his recently purchased 1940 F*rd pickup. After we loaded the '40 pickup, I mentioned to the seller that I was into old CHEVY trucks, to which Roger added that I had been looking for a good solid 1947-1953 Chevy panel.

          The next thing I heard was, "You might be interested in what I have in the warehouse."

          Back in the corner of this tightly packed warehouse was a black Chevy AD panel. I checked it over the best I could with all the other vehicles so close. This looked like the straightest, most solid original panel I had seen in a long time.

          What happened next is a little fuzzy. Apparently, I made an offer which was counter-offered and accepted. Now I had a dilemma! When I got home, I would have to convince my wife that I NEEDED THIS PANEL TRUCK. So what that I have three pickups already -- a 1937 Chevy 1-ton pickup, a 1949 Chevy 1/2-ton pickup project (named Jack after my late father) and a 1949 GMC Longbed 1/2- ton that am bolting on Chevy sheet metal to make a parts fetcher.

          I'm not sure that I really convinced her, but the next week I made a solo road trip to pick up my latest acquisition.

          The truck is in original condition, with the company name (Saks News Agency) still faintly visible on the passenger door panel.

          I haven't done anything to it yet. I keep hearing voices in my head, "Finish one project at a time."

          Could this be the voice of reason?? Nah ... it's my wife!!
