This is my 1941 Chevy 1/2-ton Short Bed.
It was 1983 and I had my mind set on getting a late 1940's, or early 1950's Chevy 1/2-ton. I thought that 5 window AD Chevy truck look was great -- one of GM's best ever. Most all the decent ones I went to see were too much $$$. I wasn't looking for a project back then. But an ad for a 1941 Chevy caught my eye (there weren't any other trucks that old in the ads) so I thought I'd give it a look see.
At that time, I had no idea what a truck that old looked like. When I first saw her, I knew this was something special. She had nice paint and a wood rail around the box, not a speck of rust, and inside she was clean. She started and ran really sweet. She stood proud with character. I made the deal and have had her ever since.
In that day, original vs. modified was not an issue, to me. I just wanted a reliable truck that was also a fun ride. The man I got her from had updated the drive train with a modern Chevy SB, trans and differential.
Over the years, she's done all my hauling and maybe a little hot roddin'. Now, the time has come for me to bump out the dings, fresh up the paint, and replace the bed.
The PO had wired everything together, home brew ... no fuse block. I removed all the gauges and will be adding a tilt column and do a total rewiring. Under the hood, the firewall needs some work and will require some welding and messaging. The hood is probably the least solid part.
I'm looking to fellow Bolter Kenny (Kgnealy) who has a good hood and bumper. I'm hoping the hood and bumper will give my Beast a strong and well put together look. [ The interior ]
Time and Michigan winters are not kind to trucks kept outside.
This picture of her on the hoist is current, (new front end). In the mean time, I'm still looking for a bigger truck. I would really like a one and 1/2-ton or bigger. I still like that Chevy AD 1947 - 55 with the 5 window cab.
