Brian Stormer's1950 Chevy 6400 |
From
Brian:
My name is Brian Stormer. I'm 20 years old and attending college at Iowa State University. I bought this truck for a couple hundred dollars recently in Massena, Iowa. I don't know much about it yet as I haven't had it towed all the way home.
I was told the following from the fellow
I bought it from. This boom truck was built by two or three brothers after they
returned home from serving in (I believe) Korea as engineers. Upon returning,
they started an earth moving business and used this truck to repair/recover
their equipment
when
it broke/became stuck. The man told me on several occasions he saw them use
it to winch their D-7's and 8's out of mudholes.
It has a type of blade on the back that can be lowered to anchor the truck when winching/lifting. They quit using the truck in the late 70's and parked it in their shop. The brothers eventually passed on and only one is still alive today -- in a Veterans hospital.
The shop began falling in and eventually the property was sold to the man I bought it from. He started cleaning up the property and the truck was drug out of its resting spot. I happened to see it a few days later while I was home for Christmas break and bought it that afternoon! As soon as I get it towed home, I will see if I can get it running. I believe it's an early 50's, model 6400 -- maybe? Just a guess. Can you help me out?
