1942 (?) Chevy Ute

07 February 2002

From Laurie:

Hi there! A few pics of my restored Chevy ute. This is an Australian production called a Coupe Ute. (I don't think this body style was produced in the States.) It runs the original 216 ci motor, 3 speed transmission etc. Has a 115" wheelbase and factory rated as 15 cwt load capacity.

The finished ute is a compilation of parts from the vehicle in the original photo and of another basket case ute. I have registered it as a 1942, but it could be up to 1946.

The restoration took 4 years to do between operating a small wheat/ sheep farm I have at Brookton and working full time teaching agriculture. All the work was done in the backyard shed at Kelmscott, Perth,Western Australia. The only farming out was clutch and brake machining etc.

The modifications at this stage from original specifications has been fitting a 350 Holley, 2'' exhaust and the wide wheels. The colour is GMH mint green.

The ute is now used as a daily runabout to work and the delivering of farm hay and straw.

It's a great site you have! Hope you enjoy seeing the pics of another beaut ute style.

See ya later,
