1965 Chevrolet C20 Stepside

        My nephew Robbie Wright has a 1961 Chevrolet Apache 10 in the Gallery (actually it’s my old ‘61 that I gave him) so I thought I would send mine in, too!

        My first vehicle was a 1960 Chevrolet Apache 10, which lit the spark for this kind of truck. When I was young (long ago), my Uncle had a 1965 Chevy. An old friend of the family did, too. Those two originally sparked my interest.

        After the 1960 died, I sold it for $500. I found a 1961 Chevrolet Apache 10 for sale at a local used car lot and I used that $500 as a down payment on her (it was $1600).

        The truck drove exceptionally well and had great power (later I learned it had a 1950 Corvette engine). It died about 10 or 15 years ago, and I recently gave it to my nephew (Robbie).

        This year, I was sitting on the couch talking to my cousin who was visiting, and he said, "Hey Brian, I know where there's a 1965 Chevrolet C20, long bed Stepside truck for $700." As he was finishing his sentence, I was already in the process of acquiring this gem.

        Today, I drive this truck as my daily and it's a real trooper. Here she is in the shade in the back pasture.

        When I bought it, the guy said, "It's a good truck." I thought he was saying that just to seal the deal. However later, I found myself saying, "This really IS a good truck!"

        I had to make alot of improvements to it, but some things I left for its pure character. Today [ pix ] , I call him "SARGE" in honor of the old World War II vet who used to farm and grow hay in my parents' pasture, and drove an old truck like mine.
