A Cool Old Truck

Alan Jones'

1951 3100 Pickup

From Alan Jones

My first truck was purchased new in 1965 by my grandfather then past on to me at the sweet age of 15. It was a long bed fleetside with a 283 and a powerglide auto. Being only a young punk with little money I never had the opportunity to fix it up the way I wanted and had to give it up for the more reliable transportation of a new truck. Since then I have always dreamed of getting another old pickup. My poor wife has had to listen to me drone on about my dream for years.

Just recently an opportunity came up to get this beautiful 1951 3100. I got it from the widow of the man that had it since the 50’s. He retired in the early 80’s and spent several years doing the
frame off restoration. He was very meticulous in his record keeping of work done and parts bought. He also went to great lengths to keep it as original as possible. The restoration was complete in 1987 and since then was only driven 800 miles, most of which was to pull a girl scouts float in
local parades. When I found it the battery was dead and it had not been out of the garage for almost 2 years.  After a few mechanical checks and a new battery it fired right up and drives like a dream.

Now I guess all my wife will have to listen to is me going on about how I want to go for a drive.
